Abstract Relatively little research has been carried out in Europe on teaching Physical Education (PE) in English as a Lingua Franca (ELF) using the CLIL method. Although CLIL is widely used throughout Europe, the PE content is often limited merely to technical-practical skills without any significant links to a socio-cultural context, critical thinking and/or knowledge acquisition. This chapter describes the curriculum and pedagogy implemented at Barbiana, a small school in a remote and mountainous place in Italy. Still revered in Europe as one of the most interesting innovative teaching experiences, the school started in 1954 when Lorenzo Milani, a Catholic priest committed to work with the poor who had run an afterschool program in a working-class parish in an industrial city close to Florence, was sent to this location because of his leftist views. Interaction between students and teachers is fundamental and has therefore been widely studied in education. However, there have been few studies on intensive spe-cial support being provided to vocational education and training (VET) students. Firstly, the focus of this article is on students’ perceptions of interactions with their class teachers. Students (aged 17–34 years) from four Finnish vocational institutions providing intensive special support were interviewed. In this sense, I will argue, that the starting point of radical education should be in the destruction of these walls of belief that people build around themselves in order to feel safe. In the publications of Freire's trip, errors are detected that makes invisible both its impact and those who made it possible. An analysis of the documentation, 6 interviews with people who made the trip possible, 6 with professionals and 2 with family members in Valencia who are transforming their schools and 2 dialogical observations have been carried out.
